Senator Max Cleland on the 9/11 Commission : "It's a scam!"
In November 2003 on CNN's NewsNight with Aaron Brown, then US Senator (Georgia) Max Cleland expresses his disgust at a "deal" struck between the Whitehouse and the 9/11 Commission, describing it as "a scam" and "absolutely disgusting". Cleland was originally appointed to serve on the Commission, but resigned shortly thereafter to take up an appointment as a director of the Export-Import Bank of the United States. Before his resignation he accused the Bush Administration of working to prevent the Committee from accessing key documents and witnesses.
"I don't think the 9/11 Commission should be making deals with our own Government."
"They don't want any more eyeballs to see their documents than they can possibly get away with."
